How Do I Add More WindowManager Themes?

Home Contents Previous Next

WindowManager only ships with version 5.2 of Red Hat Linux so if you're still using a previous incarnation, then this section will not apply to you. I only use Red Hat Linux, so you'll have to check if you have it, if you're using a different Linux distribution.

Before you begin this tutorial, you are obviously going to need a theme to install. There are hundreds of excellent WindowManager themes for you to download at wm.themes.org - for now though I recommend downloading the Twister (201k) theme (a personal favourite).

- 1 -

Log-on as 'root' and enter:

cd ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker

- 2 -

Enter:

cp /twister.gz twister

...replacing '/' if you downloaded the theme to somewhere other than in the root ('/') directory.

- 3 -

Enter:

tar -zxf twister

- 4 -

Enter:

startx

- 5 -

Right-click mouse on desktop and go to Appearance > Themes > Twister.

- 6 -

Right-click mouse on desktop again, and select Exit > Restart.
