And What About My CD-ROM?

Before you start, log-on as 'root' and have a CD-ROM in your drive.

Method 1 - The Command Line Way

- 1 -

To mount your a CD-ROM i.e. make it accessible, enter the following (making sure you select the way your CD-ROM is set-up (see table below)):

mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom
+-----+------------------------------------------+
| hda | Primary Master (Usually the hard-drive)  |
+-----+------------------------------------------+
| hdb | Primary Slave (Usually the CD-ROM drive) |
+-----+------------------------------------------+
| hdc | Secondary Master                         |
+-----+------------------------------------------+
| hdd | Secondary Slave                          |
+-----+------------------------------------------+

To examine the contents of the CD-ROM, enter:

ls /mnt/cdrom

Note

Until you unmount your CD-ROM, '/mnt/cdrom' is for all purposes 'just another' directory.


Method 2 - The Point-and-Click Way

- 1 -

Enter:

startx

...to start X Windows.

- 2 -

If the Control Panel is not displayed then right-click or left-click on the desktop to bring up the menu and select Programs > Administration > Disk Management.

- 3 -

From here you can select to mount or unmount your CD-ROM.
