Language differences

Postby [DRI]Dani on Thu Jun 23, 2011 1:27 pm

Hi everybody..

I'll go directly to the point. Recently there were problems on the server because of the language, spanish speakers were "invited" (not to say "forced") to use /pm command if we want to talk.
I messaged NIkT about this and seems that he's gonna implement the "no spanish, use /pm if so" rule, I told him I think that's not a good solution since most of the conversations are groupal and the /pm command allows just 2 people.. Until now I still have no answer from him..
So I created this topic, cos after thinking a while I got what I consider a "good solution".
I supose that there's possible to create teams, because one day I joined the server and there were 4 teams, and next day there were just the 3 usual teams, so we could create another or use one of them for the spanish speakers only, and use the (TEAM) chat, so that some don't get "irritated" by our fault.. ;)

And this is how I think everybody's gonna be happy.. What do you think?

Not a bad idea on the face of it!
One of the more troublesome parts of this would be getting people to actually do that...
There certainly would be a number of scripting solutions to this. Could have an admin command that adds people to a separate conversation room type thing. Could work.

Or if someone is really keen it would be possible to write a script that interfaces with google translate ;) Though that would be a fair bit of work.

Those scripting solutions would be perfect Demi, just depends on you.. ;) I gave my simplest idea cos actually I don't have the powers nor knowledge to do what you said..
And that's right Nik, Y activates it.. :)

I have asked a few people nicely, some say ok and oblige, and other say no, so I mute them and then they get the point.

Remember that some people DON'T understand english, a nice idea for you would be learning a simple quote as "Si hablas español, mudate a ESE equipo" (If you are going to speak spanish, move to THAT team) or something like that..
Spanish is not so hard guys.. [mrgreen]

Yes i know that, all the ones I have muted speak english just fine.
Non-english I usually let slide.

And "no" is definitly a response indicating that they speak english since they understood you to say no and it's a english word.
