AGS REBOOT TAKING PLACE TS @ nikt.ath.cx
Server may be down for up to 12 hours following a necessary security update/reboot responding to major speed issues over the last few days on http://www.aussiegameserver.com web.
Since it's been up for over 170 days, compared to Windows server, we've had a very good run. Nothing was reporting any hardware or software errors, but > 120 days does mean it will force a disk check on reboot, if there's serious errors on a disk, that will leave the server sitting in shell awaiting the person locally to confirm or deny the option to attempt to fix said possible serious errors.. I guess it's arranged that way coz if it fails to fix, the disk will need to be rebuilt, something the local person would have to deal with.
The web server - http://www.aussiegameserver.com, had slowed down dramatically, in which time, I updated the box, restarted the web and sql servers, both with no change to the very slow loading of both the forums and the resources on the DRuG mta server, which were hosted on the ags web.
I then ran the update engine for debian linux, apt-get, and found a number of updates the server needed, including a new kernel (this is like going from XP SP2 to 3 in some ways but in others, like going from windows 98 to xp).. also a bunch of other serious updates like the above, the kernel being the straw that broke the back of needing to reboot - since kernel changes don't apply until then.

So here we stand.. waiting for the server to come back up, pinging it... each moment increasing the certainty that a remote server admin will need to intervene.. eta 12 hours until they are asked to do that in the morning.
It has been, in the past, up to 5 hours after an initial reboot command was issued, that a server has completed it's scan and repair of what is a very big volume of data, then resumed responding normally.. so don't lose hope, it may very well be back up before morning.
