Web hosting

Postby [SiK]Demiveil on Thu Mar 08, 2012 3:17 pm

I'm in the early stages of a web development project currently, but am just having a quick look around at the hosting options available to me, and thought I would quickly ask here in case anyone has a suggestion for a service they have used that was good value. The resources I will require at least initially will be quite minimal. And it will be a windows host that will support asp.net and postgresql. ( v9.x ideally)

Any diamonds people?

Does it have to be in Australia, land of the long white cloud, or could it be in say, the USA?

Also do you plan on registering a domain name? What do you want it to end in? .au? .net? .com?

The country you host in and what it ends in will govern the pricing.

Also, if you are the one maintaining it, which provider do you use for your home connection/where you will be mainly administering it from?

Finally, would a simply php/mysql system suffice, and is there any way I can talk you into using linux? [mrgreen]

Windows hosting can be quite expensive. US may be your best bet.

We do offer windows but not at your level. We only offer managed/hosted dedicated 2008/2008R2. No shared hosting.

Shame.

I see no reason why it should be hosted here or in aus. So yeah, the USA or something would be fine.
And I do plan on registering a domain name yes, two to be precise, both .com

As for changing to php/mysql I'm writing it all using the ASP.NET MVC2 framework so linux obviously wouldn't work. The db is more lenient. I'm most familiar with postgres so would prefer to use it, but I could use others.

Right well looking around attempting to use Postgres with ASP.NET is a combination that is not really supported by many hosts.

Thinking of changing my DB to either mssql or MySQL.

And looking at this company atm.

Anyone have any experience with them?
