Stanford tool to build 3d scenes from photos

Postby [DRuG]NikT on Sun Sep 14, 2008 12:17 pm

OK, I thought this was pretty cool - some guy at Stanford Uni has made a tool to turn a standard 3d photo into a vrml/3ds scene... chek out the results I got from 30 seconds messing about with the following photo:

(right click and select play, assuming you have shockwave installed.

To view it now, in 3D, inside your web browser, you will need to accept the request to install the Cortona VRML viewer plugin... trust me.. its worth it... theres lots of cool VRML content out there...

In 3D...

They were still processing the movie etc when I first posted this - I've just added the flash movies it produced to my first post.

AHH! spiky water! :o

and yeah, it's definitely not perfect, but good for an automated 3d scene created from a 2d image, lol.

check out the sample ones on the site, they are pretty damn good.
