XP or Vista?

Postby [DRuG]Rassilon on Mon Dec 24, 2007 3:31 pm

I have been given some new pc parts and waiting till i can afford a new GFX Card, so with this new pc I'm gonna need to get a new OS.

I will definitely be installing the AMD64 version of Ubuntu. I will also be dual booting it with a Windows, be it XP or Vista.

What do you lovely people think would be the wisest choice?

the new system will consist of:

AMD/ATI Radeon HD 3870 512mb

AMD64 X2 4800+

GA-K8NF-9 nForce4-4X Motherboard

2gig of ram

1 x 250gig HDD

1 x 400gig HDD

MTA Race, to my understanding, only runs on XP, if anyone knows any tested workarounds for this, please tell me.. I've searched wide and far & found nothing.

I'd suggest getting something packaged with Vista, but save the disk and reload the machine with XP in the short term, until MTA is either Vista compat. or extinct.. well.. it is, in a way, for those that are one-eyed sa-mp fans, but you know..

I use XP because it keeps compatibility with the programs I use. Depends on how you use your computer, but I'd prefer XP.

I am leaning toward Vista, my only concern is MTA compatability, but I remembered I have a copy of Win 2000 that i could dual boot or run in virtual pc 2007.
Maybe I could telephone activate my current copy of XP Home and dual boot with Vista too.
I still have time to decide though, gawd knows when ill actually get the money together to buy my new gfx card.

I wouldn't use Vista until SP1 came out.. if it hasn't already.

Still I can't stand Vista; after messing around trying to find drivers among all the other problems I ended up uninstalling it a few days later.
