New Computer

Postby [SiK]Demiveil on Fri Dec 09, 2011 9:39 pm

Hello there Lads and Ladies....
I've recently graduated uni and got myself a job, and with that comes a pay check slightly larger than the nothing I was receiving before, and with that comes the fantastic opportunity to upgrade my now rather ageing computer.

And naturally thought I'd put up what I'm thinking of getting here to hopefully get some advice, seeing as truthfully I'm not exactly an expert in hardware.

I'm looking at stealing a few components from my current build, at least for awhile, so any missing components here are intentional (at least I think).

Case: Corsair 600T Full Tower Case, Black http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=392352

Mobo: Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=400148

CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2 GHz http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=400738

Memory: Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3/4G 4GB ( x 4 ) http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=394277

PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1200 http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=383263

Hard Drive: OCZ Agility 3 Solid State Drive http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=399783

Other than that, for now I'm gonna keep my Radeon HD6870, and hard drives, and naturally screens keyboards etc are all sorted.

But yeah thats what I'm looking at, but any suggestions would be more than welcome :)

Looks fucking expensive to me.... Are you gonna build it youself or buy it at that spec from a company. If your doing it yourself, shop around and knock the prices down.
Oh and a 90GB hard drive is tiny. Christ , I've downloaded more than that via torrents in the last 2 months.
no shity email/letter from my isp or throttling ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yet.

Build it myself, and I will indeed shop around, I just find that a handy site for picking components.
And yes I know 90GB is tiny, that's just a SSD, I have 3TB of hard drive space in my current computer which I'll look at stealing.

Whats the SSD gonna do in your new PC. Are you gonna store the Operating System and all the programs on the SSD and then let your 3TB HDD handle all your other stuff like porn and movies and pics and stuff.
Do you have a back up plan for the 3tb hdd just incase it dies?

Yup that is exactly what I intend on doing with the SSD.
And I have an external on which I backup everything I consider to be important on, so should one of my drives fail I'm not too worried aye.

Once you've built the PC and loaded all the software + updates, Take a ghost image of the SSD just incase that dies. It will save you a lot of hassle if the shit hits the fan in the future.
I re-ghost my PC about once a month just incase.

Certainly a logical move there.

Don't suppose you happen to know of any good online stores for this sort of stuff do ya?
I usually buy locally just for convenience, but am happy to wait for international shipping seeing as the savings are likely to be fairly significant. But ultimately trustworthiness is important here.

These are a few of the sites i bought stuff from before. They are all UK based andI have no idea if they post internationally. Have a look though as they might. Not sure how much the shipping cost would be to NZ or if you would have to pay any import tax.
