Upgrading Video Card.

Postby [SiK]Demiveil on Fri Mar 18, 2011 9:55 pm

Was wondering if I could get a little advice from the more in the know characters here as I find it very difficult to keep up with the latest happenings.

Basically my good old 8800GT 512MB is getting a little dated now and not quite keeping up with the latest and greatest, especially not now I'm running dual HD monitors.
As a part time gamer with a student budget I'm wondering if there is any reasonable price graphics card out there that would be a worthwhile purchase for boosting my frame rate. I'm looking at around $300 NZD which I believe translates to $217 USD or $219 AUD.

So yeah, anyone know of a good buy?

Possibly looking at the Radeon HD 6850....from what I can dig up its a decent card for its price, just above my $300 but hey.

The ones that are in your price range are the Radeon HD 6870 and the GeForce GTX 460.

The 6870 wins hands down.

Turns out buying from overseas suppliers works out significantly cheaper lol.
Will probably go for the 6870 as demon suggested.

Yeh mine's a 5850 & there's nothing that's not run on full perfectly so far.

Not overclocked either... I use my oven, not my PC to cook things.
