Demo Scene faves..

Postby [DRuG]NikT on Wed Jul 22, 2009 12:26 am

For those unaware of http://www.scene.org & the "demo scene" - this is the home of the best realtime 3D coding and composition peepz of the intermenets - definitely worth checking out.

I have been following the demo scene for many years.. my fave group is Farb Rausch with my fave artist, one of their members, Haujobb.

Here's a couple of my favourites (both by the above peepz)..

Liquid... Wen? - got nominated in best graphics and best soundtrack categories for the Scene.org Awards 2002

I can't run them right now, at least I don't think I can (my otherwise awesome box is held back by an mx420 - yes, I have a high level 1066fsb core2 with an agp slot on my mobo. Someone loan me a hunnet.

I was looking for one that blew me away a while back, can not find. It was an FPS with like, wingless bees. It was 100% code though, pure scene demo. It was mean, ran so awesome, though slow on the 5200 I had at the time. Spent a while looking for it when I had my 3850. Damn I miss having shaders...

Yeh, that'd be a Farb Rausch production, too.. "The Produkkt - 'kkreiger'"

http://www.theprodukkt.com/kkrieger

compatibility

The "official" minimum specs for .kkrieger: chapter 1 beta are:
  • A 1.5GHz pentium 3 / athlon or faster.
  • 512MB of RAM.
  • a GeForce4Ti (or higher) or ATI Radeon8500 (or higher) graphics card supporting pixel shaders 1.3, preferably with 128MB or more of VRAM.
  • some kind of sound hardware.
  • DirectX 9.0b.

however, there's bad news: due to an unnoticed build error in the actual released version of .kkrieger, there are severe shadow bugs on Geforce4 and Radeon8500/9000 cards. the game should be playable, but everything will be way to dark.
the full list of known bugs (which will of course be fixed in the final version) is:
  • shadow bugs on GeForce4 and Radeon8500/9000 cards.
  • "everything is red" bug on some NVidia Card/Driver combinations.
  • sudden big framerate drops that go away when a certain monster gets killed.
  • several collision bugs.
  • alt-tab doesn't work properly.
  • crashes during the "loading" phase.
