Thanks... I made it with Google Earth, using keyboard shortcuts to zoom after lining it all up, using fraps to record it.. to a 536Mb avi file, then used Vidcrop's light version "video avatar" to crop the avi and save it to an animated .gif.
I've experimented with a few image optimizers to try and reduce the files, and though it is possible to get results, they aren't dramatic without sacrifice.
I'm happy with the results.. this is probably the best approach at capturing a good google zoom I've used yet.
The second image in the random sequence is a part of episode 1 of Wacky Races - gotta love that cartoon - I just discovered that that trick with .png directories with and index.php to randomize the image also works if you use .gif as the directory name.
