lmfao smallo!!

also, on the nuclear power subject, isnt it far cleaner than burning coal? like we are at the moment? no greenhouse gases blown into the air, and overall much less waste for more power. I think it is much better, for the moment anyway, with the huge hole in the atmosphere, the earth heating up and such.

Flogdong:
The most concise answer to this is, "energy doesn't die, it mutates"...

If you watch a documentary called "Crude", it explains why governments worldwide are reconsidering oil as a suitable solution for power - it isn't just that we're running out - it's been discovered that oil, itself, was stored away during an ice age, where everything on the planet died, as a result of an overbalance of carbon in the air... this carbon eventually settled to the seafloor, compressing into crude oil, stored away carbon - when this cycle was complete, the temperature on the planet was able to level, with life returning to the planet... with a balanced CO2 (carbon) level.

What this taught us, was when the planet stores something away, its for a fucking serious reason... the planet couldn't go on the way it was unless balance was restored.

Here's the classic clincher...

Yellow cake, the source of nuclear power, is a product similar to oil, but yellow. Like crude oil, it is also found buried deep in the earth, storing away radioactive energy... almost like the earth has pushed it down there.

Now, we already know that using it produces nasty radioactive waste, stuff we have no way of disposing of, nor do we understand fully it's nature, or effect, should too much of it be released into the environment again.

Given oil requires an ice age, in order to store all this released carbon back into oil at the base of the (then dead) oceans, doesn't that make you question what, exactly, is required to right the imbalances raised by something like nuclear waste?

I know I, for one, want to learn from the first mistake before making an even bigger one to try and get away from it.

If only if placing 1 million wind turbines and hydro stuff was feasible...

The best part about this decade, is it's been the one where genuinely promising solutions have started to emerge.. I predict we won't see most of them in full force/action for about 10 years...

Best one so far in my opinion? Waves... in WA they have a whole array of floats/buoys strung together with nets, attached to pistons... as they move with the waves, power is generated by the pistons... 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Solutions just take time... Mistakes are instant... but you pay for them for ages.

Yes, they all have their problems. Wouldn't aquatic environmentalists or someone similar argue that some aquatic life may be caught in the nets? I think on all sides.

Nah, shark nets have been used for ages... they have their problems, but so do eaten humans. The other thing I can imagine the attraction of these floating areas would have, is their ability to perhaps help with reducing the damage from giant waves to the foreshore during tornadoes and such... but I also imagine that it will take them time to evolve a design that suits the role perfectly.

i see. but are you saying scientists are suggesting we cause an ice age? also, on the wave power topic, isnt there a country in europe somewhere that runs entirely off hydro electricity? my dad was telling me about that once. eh, alwell.

also, any idea why drug forums dont like me? they always sign me out. every time i have logged in i have ticked the 'always stay logged in' box.

Regarding having to always login - it's the same for everyone - once every boot.

This is a known issue for the current update of phpbb3 (RC7) - I expect it will be resolved in the next release.

i see. but are you saying scientists are suggesting we cause an ice age?

Yes... it is covered in detail in the documentary, Crude.
