This mod tells us more information in the board index "who is online" section, covering not just the last 5 minutes now, but also the last 24 hours in a new section with new database table entries devoted to this new data.. enjoy folks! :)

Well I've just cooked up a background image and popped it behind all the fixed width SimpleDark series of forum themes.. I think it improves the look a bit.. let me know what you guys think...

To paraphrase The Big Lebowski:
Do you like our new rug?? I think it ties the whole room together.

Updated phpBB from version 3.0.RC7 to version 3.0.RC8

Postby [DRuG]NikT on Sun Dec 02, 2007 2:01 pm

Updated phpBB from version 3.0.RC7 to version 3.0.RC8..

This was the smoothest update yet, with the entire process not being more than a web form based procedure.

I'm now going over the prosilver and subsilver default themes, testing to see if the updates have broken them in any way.

If anyone finds any bugs, let me know... it helps when I'm trying to find issues that I may not be aware of.

Hopefully the login system will remember between boots in this update.. but I fear this may require me installing purely phpBB3 RC5 or newer skins only - our default theme that I have put so much work into was designed prior to the major syntax changes in RC5, so this is very likely our problem... they warned that manually editing the theme into a working order would not achieve perfect results and that new themes would need to be written... let's see how we go.

But yeh, yay for us - the board didn't crash with the updates.

Well, the final of PHPBB3 is due out in a day or so, at which time I will be reverting to an unmodified board, initially, installing the new version without upgrading, but rather, just moving our board out of the way, then installing the new one fresh, then restoring our database to it, then applying any modifications afresh from their updated versions.

This should get around the errors that have developed into the system, such as remembering your passwords... with this approach, I am going to have to reinstall any custom board modifications, which is going to take a while, but it also means we'll be on a final, stable release with everything natively installed at it's actually released version number, rather than just upgrading, which it what's introduced problems, as we've stayed updated, over time.

I hope this makes sense... but in simple terms, this means no more re-entering of passwords each time you come here!

ETA 2 days.

NikT, prematurely wrote:BY GEORGE HE'S DONE IT!!

I've fixed the cookies issue, now the board should stay logged in for everyone,

Correction - still working on the cookies issue, it's still not retaining logon, working on it now.

We've managed to upgrade to the stable, Gold version of PHPBB3... flawlessly.... just gotta get one skin working with the logon retention, then I'll custom up a few.. if the board seems to change skins over the next hour or so, that'll be me tweaking.

All mods are intact.. it went a dream.

Enjoy peoples!

OK,

I've just spent about 4 hours researching the issue with the board not retaining persistent login after restarting Firefox. I hate to say this, but the problem doesn't occur in internet explorer... this has to be an issue with the domain config. of nikt.zog.net.au - my mate that maintains zog.net.au is currently on holiday in thailand, so I don't want to disturb him with admin work, and I need a domain management panel logon set up, since normally he just does the edits for me in shell.

For a demo of the issue on a vanilla phpbb3 gold, with a fresh database, click the link below:

http://nikt.zog.net.au/drugcrew/plugins/bb3

If you tell it to remember logons in internet explorer, the logon will be maintained between sessions, meaning, you wont be logged out & next time you load your browser, you will still be logged in.

Unfortunately, it seems, this is not the case with Firefox.

I'm now going to try messing with domains to point to the ip on that test forum now and see if that helps, but I doubt it will. [Aww]

I think it might be just you, or just me. To me, it stays logged in even after close FireFox. It even worked fine for in previous versions of phpBB. Don't know whats up here.

Maybe for you it's what triggered the false alarm to me too - I closed Firefox, but the downloads window was still open, thus, so was the firefox process, so opening a new browser then just hooks into the already running firefox, and returns to your logged in forums session... unfortunately for me, at least, when totally closing then reopening firefox, it's logged out again.

OK,

Netscape Navigator 9, which is at least more respectable than internet exploder, seems to remember logons.. like IE... so it's the latest version of Firefox, which I just reinstalled, but still the issue persists.

[DRuG]NikT converts the best viewed with section to read Nutscrape Navigator.

Well, I'll try to use it's proper name.. but uno.

;)

Looks like I'm switching to Netscape Navigator again - That's right folks, it remembers logins on phpbb3 on my domain, as does IE, but Firefox doesn't (on multiple machines).

Does that make me a browser whore?

My Firefox was completely closed, no windows open at all, the process wasn't running either. It worked completely fine. Which version of Firefox are you running there and what addons have you got?

Yeah, but being a browser whore isn't always a bad thing, we'd like to maximize compatibility between browsers don't we?
