New PC Game Engine: With me?

Hey, I'm going to link to a topic I started at GTAF.

It's about an idea strikingly resembling my topic title lol
and linking it here ensures my friends here can have a chance to
see the developments in this new egg.

I know we have some smarty pants here and I know we all love
to make game assets and hack shit. What do you say?

K^2 at GTAF seems quite interested thus far, and I've seen a few
people who know their shit popping in a few times between replies
as well, but no one but K^2 and Svip have offered input yet.

CCT engine is not a definite (info in posts) but offered by K^2 himself,
as well as some talk about early physics support

Wow that sounds like a huge and exciting project, and I truly wish I could help out, though sadly the only thing I know that is even near helping is some 3D modeling, though none about game specific modeling.

Good luck with it though dude, you sound like you know your stuff.

I'd be happy rigging vehicles etc, but would need a set of tools suitable for the task.

Also I find myself useful usually as an ideas guy for a lot of projects, and I'm certainly happy to offer my input on that level.

I have a few friends that developed a game in the early 90s with network synch, the lot, database driven, the network engine they scratch wrote was even more sophisticated than the 3d engine, but they developed both... Obsidian is the name of the project, you can download the linux source for free... google it if you're interested.

I've tried talking them into getting back into it.. one of my friends has been speaking of developing a 3D engine at the moment.. he works for Silicon Graphics, but this was a home project.. perhaps he may be interested.. I'll talk to him about it.

DRuG world mod from scratch models intended for bot MTA Race
and DM! If you inspire it, I will vertex snap it! I was thinking about
making some levels similar to what you'd find in online FPS but larger
if I like MTADM and it supports a lot of players Any idea would make
it happen.

I'm also throwing around the idea of a Rambo mod! Maybe. If I can
get the wits about me for it.

But back to the topic, rigging would be an awesome thing, K^2's
engine doesn't yet support stuff like that, it seems (like in the
topic) that he's got his scene management pretty strong as a
proof of concept, but he also is very busy with school, PHD Physics,
cheers K^2, right? SO anything is possible, even other engines.

I truly believe in the shit I'm slinging, from the bottom of my ticker,
I think the GTA modding community alone has what it takes, let alone
the internet at large! With the right core of people, the interest will
grow. ParoXum of the beautiful Gostown showed interest on much
the same terms as you, Nik: Give me the tools to do the job, tell
me how to do it for the engine, and I can do xxxxx"

Also some other convos with some well known uber modders
was the whole reason I finally made a topic. A couple of talks
with people I know to be adamant and impassioned about games
and boom, I can at least try, right?

Sounds like a grate idea and would love to see this go forward. I would love to help out but i probably know as much about C++ as you do. i have always wanted to get a game engine off the ground and working. but no one seems to have the time to do it!

music and sound - but i have to move house first so i can setup my recording studio properly

Same on that front..

Grish perhaps we could work on this together.. I have a stack of knowledge on studio software tools like Cubase, Wavlab, VST instruments & filters, Duncan is a released musician on vinyl that used to help run Clan Analog's sub label of Festival records, so he has a reasonable amount of heavy duty hardware/mixing knowledge... perhaps with your acoustic knowledge, we could cover all areas.. Duncan has also been involved in the release of a multiplayer game before (obsidian/unix), so he may be interested in getting involved.

For those wondering just who Duncan is, he has an account on these forums as zog, our root admin, and a good friend of mine IRL, who Grish has also met, IRL, at one of my BBQs.

Not to say that forums are any less RL.
